European Science Fiction in Lebanon

Metropolis Empire Sofil

Genre films come in multiple categories that require adequate time and patience to be explored, as they should. European cinema, in particular, has offered, throughout history, some of the most impressive and carefully executed science-fiction films, long before the reign of computer-generated images and visual effects.

Within the framework of the 21st edition of the European Film Festival in Lebanon, the Metropolis Association, in partnership with the cultural institutes of the European Union Member States, presents a selection of classic European science fiction films, most in their restored versions.

You will be intrigued by their advanced concepts of space, their visions of the perfect world and the new forms of future life they dreamed about… hop in, the ship is about to launch.

About the Movie
Humble secret agent Lemmy Caution arrives from the Outlands in Alphaville, the becalmed territory ruled by the computer Alpha 60 where “No one has ever lived in the past, no one will ever live in the future, the present is the form of all life.” When Caution meets Natacha, the daughter of Alpha 60 mastermind Professor von Braun, the forbidden, illogical power of love opens the path to liberation.
